Born in Changwon, Korea in 1954, calligrapher Dachun Kim Jongwon continues to explore the aesthetic and social role of calligraphy in Korean society with three elements of characters: sound, form, and meaning. As the primary purpose of oracle bone scripts was invented to communicate with the Gods, the artist believes that the form of all letters has the power of sorcery and cure. In his works, Kim focuses on the formative image of each stroke and the inseparable meaning behind it, which show the inherent spirituality of writing. The red color used in 'Myth 1, 2' is cinnarbar, a mineral paint. In Northeast Asia, this red paint called Gyeongmyeonjusa was believed to have the effect of repelling evil spirits, and was used exclusive by emperors. This red color of the mirror injection symbolizes life, absolute authority, a color that beneficially affects human life and spirit. The red color used in 'Myth 1, 2' is cinnarbar, a mineral paint.
